Job Record Privacy Policy

Job Record is a before/after site inspection recorder for contractors. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is stored, and when it may leave your device.

Short version: All data you enter stays on your device. The app makes no network requests, uses no analytics, and has no user accounts.

1. Data We Collect

Job Record collects only the information you manually enter or capture:

  • Job title — identifies the inspection record.
  • Site address / location — associates the record with a physical job site.
  • Inspection date — records when the job was performed.
  • Area or task names — labels inspection groups within a job.
  • Before and after descriptions — documents the condition of each area.
  • Before and after photos — visual evidence captured via camera or selected from your photo library.
  • General notes — any additional remarks about the job.

The app does not collect your name, email address, phone number, payment information, health information, or any other personal data beyond what you explicitly enter.

2. How Data Is Stored

All data is stored locally on your device only:

  • Job records (titles, addresses, dates, descriptions, notes) are stored in a Hive embedded database in the app's private storage directory, which is protected by the operating system's app sandbox.
  • Photos are referenced by their file path on your device. The images themselves remain wherever you captured or selected them (device camera roll or temporary storage).
  • Generated PDF reports are written to your device's temporary directory only while you are previewing or sharing them. They are not retained by the app after that session.

No data is ever uploaded to a server, cloud service, or any external destination by the app itself.

3. Device Permissions

The app requests the following permissions:

Android

  • CAMERA — to take before/after photos directly within the app.
  • READ_MEDIA_IMAGES (Android 13+) / READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 12 and below) — to select existing photos from your gallery.

iOS

  • Camera access — to capture photos within the app.
  • Photo Library access — to select photos from your library.

The app will explain why each permission is needed before requesting it. You may deny a permission; the corresponding feature will be unavailable but the rest of the app will continue to work.

4. Data Sharing

The app does not automatically share your data with anyone.

You can manually export a PDF report using your device's share sheet (tap the share button on the PDF preview screen). At that point, you choose where to send it — email, messaging, cloud storage, printing, or any other app installed on your device. Once you send the file through a third-party app or service, that app's privacy policy governs how the data is handled.

5. Third-Party Services

Job Record uses no third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or cloud services. All libraries used by the app operate entirely on your device:

  • image_picker — native OS camera and gallery access.
  • share_plus — native OS share sheet.
  • printing — native OS print/PDF preview.
  • path_provider — local file system access.
  • hive — embedded local database.
  • uuid — local unique ID generation.

No data is transmitted to any of these libraries' authors or associated servers.

6. Photo Metadata (EXIF)

Photos taken with your device's camera may contain EXIF metadata embedded by the camera, including GPS coordinates, device model, and timestamp. The app does not strip this metadata before including photos in exported PDF reports. If you share a PDF, recipients may be able to extract this metadata from the image files. Be mindful of what location or device information may be embedded in photos you export.

7. Data Security

  • All app data is stored within the operating system's app sandbox and is not accessible to other apps under normal conditions.
  • The local Hive database is encrypted with AES-256. The encryption key is stored in your device's secure hardware storage (Keychain on iOS, Android Keystore on Android).
  • If your device is unlocked and physically accessible to another person, your job records could be viewed.
  • The app does not implement its own lock screen or authentication.

We recommend using your device's built-in screen lock to protect all data on your device.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

  • Job records remain on your device until you delete them within the app or uninstall the app.
  • Uninstalling the app removes all Hive-stored records. Photos that were selected from your gallery are not deleted.
  • There is no automatic backup. If you uninstall the app, your records cannot be recovered.

9. Children's Privacy

This app is intended for professional contractor use and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

If this policy is updated, the Last Updated date at the top of this document will change. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
